FAQ's about pictures/siggy's!
**These are step-by-step "foolproof" instructions (or so I think!) If you get confused w/ something, please page me on the RI board!**
1. How do I put a Picture in a Post (PIP)?
- Go to tinypic.com
- Click on "Choose File" and upload your picture straight from your computer (you don't need to have the picture on a site like shutterfly, snapfish, etc)
- Click on "Resize" and change it from "Default" to "message board" or "website/email" size depending on how large you want it to be.
- Then click "Upload Now" and it will take you to a new site w/ a bunch of HTML codes
- Click on the code that says "IMG code for Message Boards and Forum" It will automatically copy this when you click on it. Then just paste it into your post!
- *Note* If you are trying to post multiple pictures in one post, try using the HTML code <*br> (w/out the star) to separate your pictures or if you want to put text underneath. Otherwise, if you hit "enter" after your picture to type something, you might end up with the "break" symbol in your tinypic code! (This has happened to me numerous times! So frustrating!)
2. How do I put a link to my bio in my siggy?
- First you need to get the URL (http:// thing!) of your bio and put that into tinyurl.com. All you do is copy and paste your bio URL into tinyurl and it creates a new, smaller URL for you to use. Highlight and copy this new URL because you'll need it later!
- Click on the "smiley face" icon at the top of the message boards (you should see several others there like a house, magnifying glass, "x", etc)
- This brings you to your "Community Bio." At the bottom of your bio under signature you need to enter the following HTML, inserting your Tiny URL in the spots that say "tinyurlhere." Take out any * you might see in this code:
<*a target="_blank" title="http://tinyurlhere" href="http://tinyurlhere>My Bio</a*>
- You can always change the words "My Bio" to something else if you prefer!
3. How do I put a picture my siggy?
- Follow the steps in #1 to get your picture in tinypic and choose the "email/website" size (it works the best I think!)
- On the page that gives you all the codes, use the first one (HTML code for websites). Click on the code and it will copy it for you
- Then open your community bio (see FAQ #2!) and under your signature, paste the code and you're all set!
FAQ's about Marriage Licenses/Certificates in RI
The specific info here (address, payments, types of ID) is specifically for the City of Providence. All the other info is just generic answers about marriage licenses.
Where do I need to go?
If the bride is a resident
of RI, then you need to apply for the license in the town/city where
she resides. If she is not, then you need to go to the town/city where
you will be married.
For Providence brides/weddings:
Providence City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street. (On the right after the Biltmore) Room 104
What are their hours?
M-F 8:30-3
What do I need to bring with me?
- Certified copy of your birth certificate (meaning it's a copy w/ a stamped seal). You need to go to the city or town hall for the place you were born to get this. (I know that seems obvious, but I figured I'd put it anyway!)
- Another form of ID to verify your address (license, etc) You can bring your passport too, but I know the Providence City Hall did not accept that as a main form of ID. We needed our birth certificate. If you were not born in this country, then a passport is ok for ID.
- If you have been married before and divorced, you need to bring proof of divorce with you as well.
How long is the license valid for?
- 90 days
What exactly IS the marriage license?
Basically, it allows you to get married (like a permission slip, if you will) They take all of your info, type it up onto a form and then you sign the form to say the info is valid. Then, after your wedding, or in some cases, at the rehearsal, the priest/officiant will sign the form and fill out where the wedding took place, what kind of ceremony it is (religious, civil, etc.) The two witnesses also sign the form as well as the bride and groom. Then either the priest or coordinator at the church sends the document to the city/town hall to be filed.
Ok, so then what is a marriage certificate?
A marriage certificate is the official document that says you're married. If you want a copy of this certificate, you need to fill out a form and pay a fee. The first copy is $20 and each additional copy is $15.
